What happened to our childhood?
What is up with Nickelodeon not releasing their best material on DVD? I get it, okay? Now kids like super high-energy annoying gross shows, but that doesn’t take away from the brilliance of (the original) Rugrats, Salute Your Shorts, Are You Afraid of the Dark, Rocko’s Modern Life, and (most importantly) Clarissa Explains it All from OUR childhoods.
They started to release some of these things on DVD. We got two whole seasons of The Adventures of Pete and Pete and one paltry season of Clarissa, which is all well and good for Pete and Pete which only had three seasons to begin with. Clarissa had 5 seasons, the worst of which is the first! “Worst is entirely relative here, as it’s impossible to actually say something negative about the show.
For that matter, where are the shows not on DVD at all? Are You Afraid of the Dark is only available in Canada. Rugrats has some highlights discs, but nothing to freak out over. Salute your Shorts and Rocko’s Modern Life aren’t available at all. What do they think we want, because another season of The Hills isn’t it. At least you can get season one of Alex Mack.
P.S. — they did start to put Clarissa on iTunes, but only 7 episodes from the already-available-on-DVD first season. Also, I’m little Pete’s friend on Facebook. I don’t know if that makes me cooler or lamer, but it’s something, right?
UPDATE: As commenter Adam Rucker pointed out, there is more available on iTunes than I had previously been aware of. STILL NOT GOOD ENOUGH.
